Margaret Carty
Senior Podiatrist
Margaret’s early Career was as an Enrolled Nurse at Flinders Medical Centre.
During this time, a painful corn saw Margaret visit a Podiatrist for the first time.
“I couldn’t believe that I had literally limped into the appointment and walked
out pain free”. It was this personal experience of the how Podiatry could have
such a positive impact on a persons wellbeing that changed her career pathway
and sent her to study Podiatry herself, graduating from University of South
Australia in 1991.
Since graduating, Margaret has built a diverse and successful career. She has
worked at Flinders Medical Centre, in Community Health, Clinical Tutoring at
University of South Australia. She also established and ran her own private
practice successfully for 24 years. During this time she completed post graduate
studies, gaining a Graduate Diploma in Social Science (Health Counselling) and
a Graduate Diploma in Podiatry at the University of South Australia.
Margaret offers a personal and holistic approach to her care, “it is never just
about the feet.” She particularly values the importance of client involvement
and open communication with other relevant practitioners. Her commitment of
providing excellent podiatry practice in helping clients manage skin and toenail
conditions, foot pain and footwear choice is enhanced by forming positive and
compassionate relationships with her clients.
Margaret has a keen interest in diabetes foot risk assessment, education and
management, including wound care. She is an authorised health professional
with the Commonwealth Chronic Wounds Consumable Scheme, which enables
her to help eligible patients manage their chronic wounds by covering the full
cost of wound care products.
Margaret has recently completed the Level 1-Chronic Oedema Lower Limb
Course, run by Lymhoedema Education Solutions, to support her interest in
helping clients understand and manage lower limb swelling.

Margaret has 3 young adult children who are all enjoying tertiary studies. She
is a keen cyclist and with her husband she enjoys participating in community
cycling events, swimming and walking.
